To commemorate the 8th anniversary of the project's success on January 20, 2026, obniz will host a live-streamed conference, "obniz CON 26.01," on the evening of the same day. During the event, we will discuss the development of obniz and announce upcoming new products.
Scheduled Announcements
obniz Now General Release
obniz Now is an all-in-one cloud service utilizing obniz, currently provided to enterprise customers. It is used for automating equipment and work sites, and for developing smart products.
Key use cases:
- Utilizing it to make proprietary products "smart" for providing apps and web services.
- Analyzing sensor data to implement on-site improvements.
Driven by its mission to realize a world where anyone can do IoT, obniz Inc. is launching the general public release of obniz Now, a service previously offered only to enterprises. With just an obniz device, anyone can register for and use obniz Now, enabling the creation of IoT services without programming. Users can select the optimal plan based on factors like data storage capacity and the number of Intelligence function executions, facilitating simpler and more affordable digital adoption, starting with a single device.
At obniz CON 26.01, we will provide a demonstration of obniz Now and announce the official release date and registration method.
Intelligent Edge General Sales Launch
In conjunction with the general release of obniz Now, we are announcing the general sales launch of Intelligent Edge®, which was previously announced at CES 2025.
Intelligent Edge® is obniz’s latest device model, designed to easily facilitate integration into products and further IoT implementation in the field. Products already incorporating it are now active in the market. It features an LTE-M connection and can not only connect with devices and sensors via Ethernet and RS232 but also assess equipment status using its built-in sensors.
At obniz CON 26.01, we will provide an explanation of the Intelligent Edge® features and a demonstration of its combination with obniz Now.
Hello Lua. Unbelievable Communication Compression and Intelligent Offline Operation with obnizOS 7
obniz is based on "Firmware-less Technology," which allows multiple devices to be controlled simultaneously from the cloud with a single software program. Development can be done in any programming language using the API, including JavaScript for which an official SDK is provided.
While this mechanism is flexible, challenges arise in product integration and large-scale deployment, such as the need to "compress data to minimize communication costs" or "enable offline operation and change that behavior over time."
obniz Inc. has developed a completely new essential technology to solve these challenges, and it will be implemented in obniz Now and obnizOS 7. This technology enables further performance and cost tuning. It not only eliminates previous weaknesses but also allows for the creation of the world's most advanced, low-cost, and secure IoT systems.
Representative examples of what will be possible:
- Automatic communication compression based on data trends.
- Offline operation, optimization for battery-powered operation, and ultra-long-term power-off operation.
At obniz CON 26.01, we will use an Intelligent Edge® device equipped with obnizOS 7 to present an overview and demonstration of this functionality.
obniz Use Without the Cloud. The New "Self-Host Plan" for the New OSS Version of obniz
In crucial infrastructure such as power generation facilities or in environments dealing with highly confidential information like hospitals, there is a demand for "on-site optimization through IoT, even if the internet cannot be used."
obniz Inc. has addressed this by offering an "On-Premise Function," a special operating mode that doesn't require the cloud, and it has been adopted by infrastructure facilities and hospitals across Japan.
obniz Inc. has fundamentally re-evaluated this technology.
To allow our technology to be utilized more broadly in environments where the cloud or internet is unavailable, we have developed a new feature called the "Self-Host Function" and established a new "Self-Host Plan."
This allows users to freely control obniz devices from a server on a closed network or a computer on the network of a facility, factory, or hospital without internet access, bypassing the internet and the obniz cloud system. This makes it possible to build any kind of IoT service.
At obniz CON 26.01, we will introduce the details of the new plan and provide a programming demonstration using the new SDK and an Intelligent Edge® device equipped with obnizOS 7 and this functionality.

クラウド無しでのobniz利用が可能に。新 OSS版 obnizで利用する「セルフホストプラン」
発電設備などの重要インフラや病院など秘匿性の高い情報を扱っている現場では「インターネットは使えない。けどIoTでの現場最適化は行いたい」という要望があります。
obniz社では「オンプレミス機能」として、そういったお客様にはクラウドを不要とした特殊な動作モードの提供を行い、日本全国のインフラ設備や病院などに採用いただいておりました。
obniz社ではこの技術を抜本的に見直しました。
クラウドやインターネットが使えない環境でもobnizの技術をより活用いただけるよう、新しい技術として「セルフホスト機能」を開発し、新たな「セルフホストプラン」を新設いたしました。
